The Massillon WestStark Chamber of Commerce exists to develop, enhance, and represent business; to promote economic growth; and to improve the quality of life for our community. To further pursue those objectives, the Chamber will consider requests for endorsements for quality of life issues such as school levies, museum and library levies, and local government tax or levy initiatives. This will be done on a case by case basis. Applicants must be presented by a dues-paying member of the Massillon WestStark Chamber of Commerce in good standing. The Chamber will not consider endorsements for candidates for any elected or appointed position.
The following policy will be used for the Chamber’s consideration:
1. A written request for endorsement shall be submitted to the Chairperson of the Chamber’s Board of Directors by the first day of the month at least sixty (60) days prior to the election. Example: for a November election – by September 1.
2. The Chairperson of the Board shall refer the request to the Vice Chair of the Legislative Affairs Committee for committee review.
3. The Legislative Affairs Committee shall make arrangements for the applicant to present the endorsement request and shall send an email to the active membership notifying them of the date and time of the scheduled presentation. After hearing the presentation, the Committee shall summarize the pros and cons of the request, and submit a written recommendation to the Chairperson of the Board of Directors.
4. The Chamber’s Board of Directors shall vote to take one of three positions: to endorse the issue, to not endorse the issue, or to take no position on the issue.
A written request for endorsement shall be submitted to the Chairperson of the Chamber’s Board of Directors and shall contain the following information:
Name, address, and contact information of applicant including phone and email.
Names of persons attending presentation.
Issue number and description, and date of election.
A statement explaining how the issue would affect the business community of Massillon and western Stark County.
